Work with me to craft and croft creativity with care.
Freelance Project Management Work
An excellent spinner of plates, teller of yarns, a weaver of webs, a crofter of ecosystems. A systems thinker with the ability to range from micro to macro and everything in between, happily working with seasons and cycles. My interests span creative, academic and commercial projects exploring community building, sustainable craft practice (textiles and more), creative play, hybrid analogue-digital making, cultural heritage, data science, data physicalisation, materials from the land – all things that I explore as part of my making practice and the places it intersects with my past life as a scientist. Making through thinking, thinking through making, creating through doing.
My skills and expertise cover project design and delivery, grant and manuscript writing, workshop facilitation, idea generation, curriculum development, mentoring, teaching, research, report writing, and more. I can “translate” between disciplines, ensuring that people with different lived experiences and skill sets are talking the same language. I’m equally happy working in-person, hybrid and remotely, as part of a small team or on my own.
I’ve worked in a freelance capacity with and for a range of organisations including Applied Arts Scotland, University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University, University of Edinburgh, Heriot Watt University, Glasgow School of Art, British Council (Mexico and Nepal), Creative Learning Aberdeen, Aberdeen Arts Centre, Alcohol and Drug Awareness (Aberdeen), Elev8 Arts, All In Ideas, Scotland Re:Design, Lateral North, V&A Dundee, V&A London.
I especially enjoy co-creating opportunities that meet needs and address challenges of communities and individuals, and have developed and delivered projects and workshops tailored towards professional craft makers, creative networks, general public, fashion designers, youth entrepreneurs, scientists, museums, and more.
I’m an experienced project manager, with over 20 years of developing ideas, securing funding, and managing delivery of projects (including administration, financial management, risk management, embedding equality of opportunity and access, logistics, communications, showcasing). I weave a strong ethos of care, play and sustainability through standard project management approaches; and I only work on projects underpinned by shared values and a shared commitment to purpose. More on those can be found under Important Info.
